Pharez (Hebrew: פרץ, Pāreẓ or Pẹreẓ; Greek: Φαρές, Phāres; "Name means::a breach"), (b. Born::Teveth 2283 AM), was the first son of Judah and Tamar, and was the twin brother of Zerah. Some notable descendants of Pharez are ancestor of::David, ancestor of::Solomon, and ancestor of::Jesus Christ.

Pharez and Zerah were conceived in the springtime of 2282 AM and born in the wintertime of 2283 AM. As his brother thrust his arm out, the midwife attending Tamar tied a bright red cord around it. Nevertheless Pharez was born first, and the midwife said, "How did you break out first?" This is how Pharez got his name, which means "a breach" or "breaking out." Zerah was born next, and his name means "bright red." (Genesis 38:27-30 )
Pharez married very early, and certainly no later than the springtime of Married::Abib 2297 AM. Nine months later (Entry into Egypt::Teveth 2298 AM) he entered Egypt with two infant twin sons, Hezron and Hamul.
How long he lived in Egypt, the Bible does not say. His descendants became the most senior clan leaders of the tribe of Judah and later the kings of the United Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah.
