Intermittent with water and soil, Heterotrichea, the different ciliated protozoan swims and climbs through the water. These microorganisms hunt each other or filter the water scavenging for nutrients particulates.
Cilia, microtubules that protrude from cells, are used for a variety of functions. Some times though two organisms will develop like characteristics but not be related, such is the case for many in the heterotrichida class .
Heterotrichida have cilia around there mouth and around their bodies . The cilia in heterotichida are microtubules . Some times it its not enough to have just one cilia to complete a task, when such a task arises a different form of cilia my arise, cirri, a fusion of many different cilia .
The stentor is one of the largest protozoon’s . On the mouth of the stentor, cirri the fusion of a hand full of cilia, cascade inwards, spiraling down into the depths of the stentors protozoan belly. The cirri beat as one combining their whirling pull into a vortex of suction, bringing particulates into the buccal funnel of its body. Whenever such particulates are ensnared, they are drawn into food vacuoles and then circulated around the stentors body through the cytoplasm until they, the food, are broken down and absorbed. After which the waste, is erupted out of the food vacuoles. there or other protozoa’s with cilia on there mouths, but the stentor has cilia covering the rest of its body in horizontal rows much like the cannons on an ancient British war ship, these cilia allow it to swim . When swimming the stentor will normally look like and oval or a pear, the stentor only looks like a trumpet when it is attached to something . So far there has not been extensive research done on the genome of stentors .
Most there are two main ways that theses organisms in this class reproduce. The first way is asexually. The second is sexually. Stentors reproduce asexually through binary fission, and sexually with conjugation .
There are a wide variety of organisms in hetrerotrich. Because of this variety, there is a plethora of different environments that they are suited for such as but not limited to; soil, basically almost anything with water, salt marshes, marshes, freshwater, not so fresh water, and sometimes they are parasites .
Heterotrich ciliate (Fabrea salina) lives in salt marshes .
Theses protozoans, either filter nutritious particles out of the water or they hunt other protozoan and other microscopic creatures. Or lastly they might form a symbiotic relationship with algae and perform photosynthesis, if not at least house the photo synthesizer.
