Edom (Hebrew: אֱדוֹם,ʾEdôm; Syriac: ܐܕܘܡ; Greek: Ἰδουμαία, Idoumaía; Latin: Idumæa or Idumea; "red") is a name given to Esau, the son of Isaac and Rebekah and brother of Jacob in the Bible (Genesis 25:30, 36:1, 8, 19), in addition to the nation situated south of Judah and the southern Dead Sea region in modern-day Jordan, inhabited by his descendants, the Edomites.
